Kings XI started IPL 2017 in impressive fashion, winning their first two games, both of which were played in their "home" ground at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler racked up 50 runs in just 3.5 overs, equaling the effort when they chased 190 versus Rajasthan Royals at Mumbai in 2014, their highest-ever chase before today.
Mumbai are off to their best start in IPL history with four wins in five matches and would hope to better that record considering Kings XI have lost all three of their most recent games.
But the partnership that really boosted KXIP's run rate was the one between Amla and Maxwell, the duo scoring 83 for the third wicket in 5.3 overs at a staggering rate of 15.09.
Playing shots that would delight the purists, Amla spanked all the Mumbai Indians bowlers en route his unbeaten 104 off 60 balls, which included as many as six sixes apart from eight boundaries.
Former Indian wicketkeeper Patel hit 37 off 18 opening alongside Buttler who would crush 77 off 37 balls before being dismissed with Mumbai on 166-2 with the win all-but secure.
Mumbai will look to continue their sublime run when they take on struggling Punjab. Hashim Amla's superb 103 enabled Punjab put up a competitive 198 for 4 in 20 overs but Buttler made a mockery of the target with Mumbai Indians knocking off the runs in only 15.3 overs. For the Kings XI Punjab, it was their fourth loss on the trot.
NOTE: According to the agreement, IPL 2017 live stream for internet users will run 5 minutes behind the TV broadcast. However, the real rampage began from the next over onwards when Buttler smashed a boundary and a six off Sandeep Sharma.
The fall of Marsh brought in the in-form wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha (11), who chipped in to add 34 runs for the second wicket with Amla before missing Krunal Pandya's straight ball which crashed his leg stump.
Hashim Amla celebrates reaching his century against Mumbai. Parthiv hit 2 sixes and 4 fours during his batting stint. The fifty run stand between Rana and Buttler came off just 29 deliveries. In their match against SRH, they scored a combined 24 runs.
Having lost three games in the trot - Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders - Maxwell's side is looking a little rusty despite having kicked off their IPL campaign with a bang.
