Washington state's unemployment rate is at its lowest since August 2007, after falling from 4.9 to 4.7 percent in March, according to the Employment Security Department (ESD). The unemployment rate for White workers also improved, dipping below 4 percent in March.
MA labor officials say the unemployment rate ticked up last month while the state added an estimated 200 jobs.
The agency says government, manufacturing and professional and business services enjoyed strong job growth last month. "When the labor force grows quicker than residents can find work, unemployment rates take a hit and that's exactly what we've seen over the past 12 months".
The national rate was 4.5 percent in March, down two-tenths of a percentage point from February.
"The rate dropped as we saw more than 19,000 people become employed and Georgia employers continued to create jobs (in March)", Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said.
While the low unemployment rate is good for workers' paychecks, it's harder on the employers. According to this survey, seven of Kentucky's 11 major nonfarm North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) job sectors registered gains in employment, while four declined from the previous month. Construction has been the fastest-growing sector over the past year, adding more than 8,000 jobs. The largest increases occurred in administrative/support/waste services, local government, and state government. The jobless rate for Black women fell from 7.1 percent to 6.6 percent in March. The state added an estimated 49,000 jobs from March 2016 to March 2017. "For example, it was only in July 2015 that the Black unemployment rate finally ducked below where the white unemployment rate was at its peak in the aftermath of the Great Recession".
