Dem rep calls for impeachment of Trump

Ample reasons existed to worry about this president, and to ponder the extraordinary remedy of impeachment, even before he fired FBI director James Comey and shockingly admitted on national television that the action was provoked by the FBI's intensifying investigation into his campaign's ties with Russian Federation.

A historian who has accurately predicted every presidential election since 1984 - including Donald Trump - believes the 45th president will not be able to finish his four-year term.

Mr Comey had been heading up an investigation into alleged interference by Russian Federation in last year's presidential election when he was sacked.

"President Trump is not above the law", said Green.

Russian officials have repeatedly denied charges of interfering in the U.S. election, saying the allegations are absurd and represent an attempt to divert the United States public's attention from pressing domestic issues. "You've got top law professors like Laurence Tribe saying this is an impeachable offense, possible obstruction of justice".

Impeachment chatter appears to be heating up among Congressional Democrats - with a second member of the House now explicitly calling for the President to be impeached. In response to a question whether there has been any curtailment of the FBI's activities in the investigation since Director Comey was sacked, McCabe responded that "we don't curtail our activities". The Constitution specifies the grounds for impeachment as "treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors".

Comey's firing has led to allegations that Trump is trying to scuttle and obstruct the FBI's probe. "That is clearly, on its face, obstruction of justice".

Tribe goes on to expand on the Comey affair, talking about instances including contradictions between the White House and Trump and Trump supposedly threatening Comey not to talk to the media. Some Democratic elected officials have also increasingly begun floating impeachment since Comey's dismissal, which reports suggest was motivated by the president's personal mistrust.

"Regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey", Mr Trump said.

President Trump acted within his legal authority in firing Comey whenever he sought fit. "Impeachment will happen if handful of Republicans in Congress join Dems to put country above party".
