Actually, maybe Venom will be connected to Spider-Man: Homecoming

"Spider-man, due for release in 2018 is being developed by Insomniac Games

In a joint promo interview for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sony's Amy Pascal let it loose that Spider-Man will be a part of their Spiderverse movies which presently includes Venom and the Silver Sable and Black Cat movie. Just last week, Tom Holland himself unwittingly revealed that Marvel and Sony had made deals for a Spider-Man trilogy from the get-go - and he should surely know, since it's likely written into his contract!

Sony's Venom movie starring Tom Hardy will be connected to the MCU! This is a bit surprising, as it was previously implied that Holland's Spider-Man would not appear in the films at all, and it's not certain how it would even work.

If we take what Layden said literally, that means Shadow of Colossus and Spider-Man could join Monster Hunter World and God of War 4 with early 2018 releases. They may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world.

Quizzed on whether this means there's a chance Holland will appear in the spin-off flick based on his opponent, she mused, "There's always a chance".

In what's only caused even more confusion now, Sony's Amy Pascal is saying that Venom exists in the same universe as Spidey. Pascal also likened the shared Marvel universe movie dynamic to chapters in a book that you "have to" read before the next one and an "investment" in a "larger story". Feige seems incredibly tense as Pascal gives her answer, as many have pointed out on Twitter. With Sony's Spider-Man finally joining the universe, director Jon Watts teases some fun scenes for us after the credits roll.

After they sold the rights to their A-list characters to other movie studios, Marvel Studios had to dig deep in the remaining roster of superheroes to build the massive franchise they now have. Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige confirmed as much when he said that there were no plans for Venom to be involved in the MCU.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released in theaters on July 7, 2017.
