Some House Democrats mull over how to oust Pelosi as leader

The Republican Party has spent tens of millions of dollars in attack ads attaching Democrats to her, Pelosi said. Ryan unsuccessfully challenged Pelosi for party leader back in November. "If we don't, then I think it's incumbent upon her and all of us to reassess who our leadership should be".

Democrats must know the feeling.

The president slammed Pelosi's record after the Democratic special election losses, explaining that it would be a "very, very sad day for Republicans' if Nancy Pelosi steps down".

As usual, the Dems put up a stiff for its candidate, one Jon Ossoff, who didn't even live in the district.

Increasingly, Democrats concerned about Pelosi's status as a bogeyman on the right - which Republicans have effectively used to motivate their base voters - are warning that unless Pelosi is ousted, she could cost the party its shot at winning control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections.

Pelosi has led House Democrats for almost 15 years, at one point as House speaker and more recently as minority leader.

The New York Times' Maggie Haberman reported late Thursday that aides to Pelosi had sent around suggested tweets, reminding people of Pelosi's role getting ObamaCare passed through the House - just as Republicans were unveiling their health care bill - and attempting to make the hashtag #StandWithNancy go viral. In 15 years, she's raised nearly $570 million for Democratic campaigns. Absolutely. But there's nothing to justify the complete and utter demonization of her. Pelosi is widely regarded as a strong legislative strategist, a smart, savvy leader. "I love the arena".

"When it comes to personal ambition and having fun on TV, have your fun", Pelosi said.

"So you want me to sing my praises, is that what you're saying?" the California Democrat remarked dismissively to reporters when asked why she should stay on as leader. "I thrive on competition, and I welcome the discussion", she said.

It was laughable to watch the Party of Losers come up with reasons for why they never had a chance in Georgia, or say that the margin of victory was an encouraging sign of future Republican weakness.

The present reality remains bleak for Democrats nationwide: they're 0-4 this year in special elections, despite one of the most unpopular Republican administrations in history.

But Pelosi's camp signaled she is taking the grumbling seriously.

"Usually they go after the most effective leaders because they want to diminish the opportunity that we have", Pelosi said.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Congressional leadership continue to take a glass-half-full mentality.

President Donald Trump earlier Thursday even tweeted he'd like her to stick around.

Pelosi said that would be fine with her. "We need to move forward and we need to get a new leadership team in place", Rice said after the hour-long meeting.

When the top post among House Democrats might open up, though, Pelosi hasn't said.
