Cosby jury sent home after deliberating 4 hours

He says what they did was consensual.

The defense had tried repeatedly since Cosby's December 30, 2015, arrest to have the case shut down, saying the charges were filed too late and the accusers were after money.

Jurors in Bill Cosby's Pennsylvania sexual assault trial are ending deliberations for the night.

The panel will reconvene to continue deliberations tomorrow. Jury deliberations ceased at approximately 9:30 P.M Eastern time, and will resume Tuesday morning at 9:00 A.M. It was read to them by the judge.

He also said he gave Ms Constand three half-tablets of the cold and allergy medicine Benadryl before the "petting" began.

If Cosby testifies, and denies drugging and molesting Constand or anyone else, the judge might allow more accusers to testify as rebuttal witnesses.

Jurors were expected to hear closing arguments and could get the case in the afternoon. They've been deliberating for two hours, and have had dinner brought in. He says she doesn't say 'yes.' He says he put his finger. "Mrs. Cosby has been supporting Mr. Cosby for the entire time they've been together for 53 years", he said.

Victims' right groups have said Constand is a flashpoint for a larger cause but that it does not diminish her case. "I said 'I trust you.' I took the pills and I swallowed the pills down".

Before asking to go back to their hotel, jurors asked to see a portion of Cosby's decade-old evidence from a civil action filed against him by Ms Constand. Cosby says any contact was consensual. The repercussions from the case already destroyed the family friendly image of a man whose groundbreaking work in television earned him the nickname America's Dad, and produced a stunning late-in-life downfall of one of the most beloved stars in the entertainment world. He gave her no choice in this matter. Why?

And he used jarring language to describe his sexual encounters with various young women.

Prosecutors suggest Cosby gave her something stronger.

Dozens of women say he assaulted them, but statutes of limitation rules mean he is on trial for only one allegation. This is the only case to result in criminal charges against the comic. The former Temple University employee is accusing Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting her in 2004 at his suburban Philadelphia home.

McMonagle's tone became tinged with anger as he stressed Constand's misstatements to police about the day of the assault.

Constand chose to return to court for closing arguments Monday after giving more than seven hours of testimony. Camille Cosby also sat in the front row, with a few other people and the aisle between them. She sued Cosby in a civil suit and settled for an undisclosed amount in 2006. Among those listening was Camille Cosby, 73, his wife of 50 years and business manager.

"It would be very bad for him for the jury to even begin to think about the other women", Oliver said.

"We're here because of them", he said, pointing to the benches of reporters covering the trial. "He took that from Andrea Constand".

The defense's solitary witness was Richard Schaeffer, a detective who helped take down Constand's original statement in 2005, a year after the incident.

McMonagle, in his closing argument, tried to sow doubt about Constand's story.

This item has been updated to delete an incorrect reference to Constand visiting with Cosby after the encounter. Schaffer said he knew Constand had earlier visited Cosby at a casino, according to the Associated Press.

Bill Cosby says he will not testify in his own defence at his sexual assault trial.

"Don't let her declare victim", defense lawyer Brian McMonagle implored the 12-person jury, who have been sequestered throughout the trial.

For its case, the defense team briefly recalled a Cheltenham detective as its only witness.

The jury was to decide whether Cosby was guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault, each of which carried a possible 10-year prison sentence. Last week, neither she nor their four daughters appeared.

Cosby's prior use of Quaaludes with women, Steele argued, show that he had knowledge of what he was doing when he gave Constand those pills.

The trial will move to closing arguments if no defence witnesses are called.

He told Judge Steven O'Neill that he had decided not to testify after speaking with his lawyers.
