MPs are mocking Donald Trump amid claims that he told Theresa May to "fix" a warm reception for him in the UK. "When I know I'm going to get a better reception, I'll come and not before", Trump allegedly told May.

According to the British tabloid, May explained to Trump that she had no control over what the British media report about him.

"I still want to come, but I'm in no rush", Trump said.

However, no date has yet been set for the visit - which had originally been expected to take place this year - prompting speculation it could be delayed until next year at the earliest.

A transcript of the chat, seen by senior diplomats and leaked to the publication, revealed that he was concerned about negative press coverage in the United Kingdom.

"Well, you know what the British press are like", she replied.

"I haven't had great coverage out there lately, Theresa", Mr Trump told Ms May, according to a transcript of the conversation seen by senior diplomats.

However, Trump furthered his brazen plea.

'When I know I'm going to get a better reception, I'll come and not before'.

This report marks one of many phone calls between Trump and a foreign leader to have gone public.

"Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the U.K.in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen", reads the petition.

May extended Queen Elizabeth II's invitation to Trump during a visit to the White House only a week after Trump's inauguration on January 20.
