Manchester United close in on Perisic and Dier, ditch Jones and Smalling

Premier League giants Manchester United are in top gear ahead of the start of the 2017/18 League season as the Red Devils have agreed £40 million deal to sign Inter Milan attacking midfielder Ivan Perisic.

Man United have been strongly linked with a move for Perisic over the last couple of weeks, although Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio recently insisted that the Croatian would not be moving to Old Trafford this summer.

However, they had been resisting the switch as they focused on improving their own squad.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are now close to the signing of Keita Balde from Lazio, a move which indicates further that Perisic will be on the move in the near future.

The report says Perisic will soon fly out to US to join up with his new teammates after Inter finally relented and made a decision to sell the 28-year-old.

The Italians have stood firm on their valuation of Perisic, but now the deal looks close to being finalised.

The Independent's chief football writer Miguel Delaney broke the news.

Earlier this week Perisic had been snapped during a Nerazzurri training session looking decidedly unhappy, and also sent tongues wagging with an Instagram post that said tantalisingly, "Destination unknown".

"Crosses the ball nearly five times more than United's current wingers - needed with Lukaku!"
