Shark School With Michael Phelps: (8 p.m. July 30) Phelps gets schooled at Bimini Shark Lab and gets up close to a Great White. But as The Sun pointed out, the odds aren't in his favour: the great white shark can hit 25mph, whereas Phelps's top speed is 6mph.

Unfortunately, the question still remains unanswered as the Discovery Channel pulled a bait and switch by having Phelps race against a CGI version of a shark.

Discovery hasn't released any details about the race itself. Great White. The 23-time Olympic gold medalist finally met his match and lost the made-for-television race.

However, there was a chance Phelps could have been bit, with the open ocean course located in shark-infested waters off the coast of South Africa. In that sense, it would've taken a miracle, and a new world record, for him to beat the shark. If a great white shark is the only race he takes from here on out, I'm sure no one would be opposed. No idea how they convinced the shark to do it, though.

Sharks and the City: New York (July 25, 10 ET/PT): Seals have returned to New York Harbor, which means their greatest predator, the great white shark, probably isn't far behind.

Shark Vortex (July 24, 8 ET/PT): When the Gulf Stream pushes warmer waters into New England each summer, it provides a bonanza for scientists and shark enthusiasts as 30 species appear. But a great white is just a beast of a competitor in the water. Clearly, the odds were in the favor of the shark during the race.

A team do what you and the rest of us would never dare - and float in a specially-built shark gage 500 miles out at sea in the Gulf of Mexico just to, you know, see what sharks they lure in.

In contrast, Phelps has been fast ... but for a human, not for a shark.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "It's hard for me to race something that has the speed that they have, and how fast they can turn on a dime is something that's truly incredible, especially with the size of these animals".

There's one way - maybe -Phelps could win.

"I'm high maintenance when it comes to cold water", Phelps said. Phelps might have actually won if he'd had the shark right here with him! This isn't uncommon - most movies and even nature documentaries play scary music when a shark swims onto the screen.
