Wimbledon 2017: Jamie Murray & Martina Hingis triumph in final

Jamie Murray and Martina Hingis brought the curtain down on another memorable Wimbledon when they won the mixed doubles title, beating Heather Watson and Henri Kontinen 6-4 6-4.

Britain's Jamie Murray and Switzerland's Martina Hingis won the mixed doubles title.

The Swiss, who came out of retirement in 2013 after a lengthy absence from the game prompted by testing positive for cocaine at the 2007 championships, now boasts six Wimbledon titles and 23 grand slam wins across singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Roger Federer will surely dominate the Wimbledon headlines Sunday as he chases an Open Era men's record eighth singles title but it should not be forgotten that after the main course, there's also dessert to enjoy, in the form of the mixed doubles final.

"I have to thank Martina for asking me as I wasn't going to play mixed doubles", Murray said. "It's going to take something pretty special to kind of maybe, potentially take my eye off the ball with it".

"I haven't asked Henri yet, but I hope he says yes", said the 25-year-old.

"But because it's far away, because of what happened a year ago, I just like to take the opportunity to thank the people in the very moment, and make them understand, yes, I hope that I'm back".

Murray was the star of the show and he earned the first break with a dart across the net, but a poor game from Hingis allowed Watson and Kontinen instantly to hit back.

After Andy Murray and Johanna Konta's exits from the singles, Watson and Jamie Murray were able to deliver two British finalists on Centre Court, even if not the pair that many home fans had wished for. "I'm just happy it was mine".

They had to work for the title - saving three break points as they looked to serve it out, before Murray finished it off on his serve. "I don't know if he snuck a few points in or not".

Murray and Hingis will be the favourites but Kontinen and Watson showed past year how risky they are. She's won everything, won so many mixed as well.

She said: "We haven't felt it yet together".
