Bledisloe preparation begins now for Coles

The Perth-based Force had their Super Rugby licence rescinded by the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) on Friday after they agreed to cut one team from the competition following a decision to reduce it from 18 teams to 15 from next season.

The Wallabies will be hoping to deliver some more positive news when they face the All Blacks for the first Bledisloe Cup match at ANZ Stadium on Sunday and Sports Sunday panellist and former Wallaby Peter FitzSimons pleaded with Cheika to provide some hope. So I think that shows on the field.

"Things have never looked grimmer going into it".

Cheika is making no promises but has hinted at plans to take a leaf from the British and Irish Lions' playbook by applying pressure to the All Blacks at every turn with swarming defence.

"You're asking me to do an Anthony Robbins?"

"I've had almost 20 new caps between that World Cup, there's probably only 12 of those players from that squad left". There would be half of the team that had gone into last year's series that had only played single digit games against New Zealand.

"They've got something that we know if they put it together they're a risky side." he said.

"Nepo and Ofa (Tu'ungafasi), we haven't had too much rugby together but it was good to scrum with them - we caused a bit of havoc at scrum time, so it's good to get those combinations going", Coles said.

"Then we will see what happens from there, we'll see if we can take the pickings".

Cheika said his biggest concern over the axing of the Force was for the "huge" rugby supporter base in Western Australia.

"The professional players, yes, they understand that they could go from one team to another".
