Antonio Conte coaches Chelsea versus Arsenal in the Premier League

Almost a week on from attracting a fair bit of criticism for his substitute appearance in the Community Shield, the Spanish global made his home debut for the club, again coming on from the bench in Chelsea's Premier League opener against Burnley.

Instead, his studs caught the Belgium midfielder on the shin and while it was accidental, it was also reckless and referee Craig Pawson immediately brandished the red card.

Conte said he did not want to answer questions about Costa, but tellingly conceded: "For me it's in the past". In the next game I'm not sure whether Pedro is ready but for sure we'll have (the other) two players.

They'll need to, with title favorite Manchester City's expensively assembled team starting with a comfortable 2-0 win at Brighton.

Late goals from substitutes Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud earned Arsenal a 4-3 win over Leicester in Friday's frantic opening game.

After beating Tottenham to the Premier League title last season, the Blues can expect a fired up performance from their London rivals in their temporary Wembley home next Sunday.

"Chelsea have players of such calibre and to see the game through is so pleasing".

Alvaro Morata nearly inspired a comeback as a second-half substitute, scoring before setting up a late strike for David Luiz, a goal that came after Cesc Fabregas' removal for a second yellow had seen Chelsea reduced to nine men.

"In the second half we were in that awkward predicament - do you attack or hold on to it?"

"But today I saw two faces of the team - one positive in the second half and one negative in the first half".

Chelsea undoubtedly had the worse result.

Burnley's form at home and away contrasted sharply last season.

There are three weeks left in the transfer window and Chelsea desperately needs reinforcements, with the Champions League also on the schedule.

"It's a big win for us because they're a fine side".

City needed to show patience, with Sergio Aguero breaking the deadlock in the 70th followed by an own goal from Lewis Dunk in the 75th. The problem, as ever, came at the other end.

"Instead, we conceded three goals and the second half was very hard to change the final result, despite the great commitment, great desire and great will of my players".

The home side, under new manager Marco Silva, led twice through Stefano Okaka and Abdoulaye Doucoure but Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, with a penalty, both equalised. Liverpool said Coutinho was missing because of a back injury. Still, the sight of Huddersfield in first place was something to behold.
