Nigeria: Buhari - No Measure of Intimidation Will Deter Us - Protesters

They are demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari should resume or resign.

The protesters under the auspices of Concerned Nigerians, expressed their displeasure in Abuja requesting ailing Nigerian President to resume or resign his office after he spending 92 days in London on medical rip.

Are Nigerians really exhausted of President Buhari?

The leader of the protesters, Charles Oputa, alias Charley Boy, said in the statement that the position of the Senate was "ridiculous".

Earlier this year, Buhari had made a similar medical trip to London where he spent 51 days. The lawmakers across party divides said they were not anxious about the president's absence.

In a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anjuguri Manzah, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, the police, however, advised members of the public to prevail on their children and wards, followers and adherents not to allow themselves to be used by any group to cause disturbance of public peace and breakdown of law and order.

Heavily armed mobile police men accompanied the protesters as they moved toward the gate of the Presidential Villa where they vowed to occupy until the President accede to their demands.

The report said the police fired tear gas canisters at the protesters wounding a citizen who was rushed to a clinic at the Federal Secretariat complex, a few kilometres from the scene of the incident.

Other protesters also complained about the high handedness of the police in recent protests as they observed their rights to a peaceful protest.

On Tuesday, eyewitnesses told the Nigerian Tribune the protesters had converged on the venue for one hour before the police dispersed them.

The FCT Police command noted that, while it is fully aware and recognizes the constitutional rights of every citizen, including #Our Mumu Dondo group to assemble and move freely in any part of the Federal Capital Territory, it will not allow any protest under any guise to turn violent and jeopardise the prevailing peace, law and order now being enjoyed in the FCT.
