SAN DIEGO CA- NOVEMBER 16 Donald Penn #72 of the Oakland Raiders talks to the head linesman John Mc Grath #5 after a play in the first quater against the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium

In his first game in an Oakland Raider uniform, Marshawn Lynch didn't play a down.

When all of your key starters don't even bother to hit the field in the exhibition opener, which the Raiders lost 20-10 on Saturday night to the Arizona Cardinals. Lynch has not spoken to the media at this time, so it's unclear if his statement and the incident are directly related.

Whether that was his way of joining the protest toward social injustices started by then-49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick last season wasn't immediately clear, but it certainly figures to be a hot topic.

Lynch was not available in the locker room postgame.

"He said, 'This is something I've done for 11 years".

"I told him I very strongly believe in standing for the national anthem. You do your thing and we'll do ours". "You do your thing and we'll do ours.' So that's a non-issue for me", Del Rio said, according to ESPN. "He (Palmer) just put a little too much juice on it".

Yes it is only a preseason game. It looked as if the Cardinals were headed for a short field goal, but the Raiders were called for covering the snapper on the kick, giving Arizona a first down and setting up its opening TD. Depth in its defense will show here, slowing down a Raiders offense that will play primarily backups and players on the outside looking in when roster cutdowns happen.

"He's been a great pick", coach Bruce Arians said. I missed a long one to Jaron (Brown) and wanted to kind of redeem myself. "He reminds me a lot of the way (Justin) Tuck can get skinny and shoot a gap".

"I've got to wait until next week".

The Oakland Raiders concluded the the 2016 National Football League season just a single game away from getting the AFC West title. He often looked like the dominant force the team hoped he would be coming out of college, and it'll be interested to see whether he can overtake Josh Mauro for the starting job. Jack Del Rio did not want to take any chances with Carr. "There were several guys that didn't play and that was one of them".

Ladies and gentlemen, let's get ready to rumble! Former first round draft pick EJ Manuel is the backup, while second-year pro Connor Cook is the third-stringer.

Oddsmakers at sports book Bovada.lv list the Cardinals as a 3-point favorite Saturday night as they host the Raiders, while the over-under is set at 40. He had two bad penalties on the night and almost gave up an easy touchdown completion had Stanton not overthrown his target. Only 53 will make the team, and after that only a handful will make the practice squad. He had just a single tackle, and ran himself out of a few plays.

"He was flawless", Arians said of his receiver on the play.

QUOTABLE: "That's where I'm from".
