The yield on three-year Treasurys fell 0.9 basis point to 1.824 percent and the return on benchmark five-year government bonds shed 1.4 basis points to 2.024 percent.

Currently, the major averages are hovering in positive territory.

The Dow ended a nine-day streak of closing records, falling by 0.24%, while the Nasdaq fell by just under half a percent and the S&P was down by 0.21%.

Many world stock markets have hit record or multi-year highs in recent weeks, leaving them vulnerable to a sell-off, and the tensions over North Korea have proved the trigger. Thursday's producer-price index came out tepid, analysts said. Economists had expected productivity to increase by 0.7%. Core prices had also been expected to climb by 0.2 percent.

However, Federal Reserve Bank of New York President William Dudley suggested on Thursday that the central bank was on track to raise interest rates once more as he expects sluggish inflation to rise over the next several months.

Earlier, Trump warned North Korea on Tuesday it would face "fire and fury" if it threatens the United States, prompting the nuclear-armed nation to say it was considering firing missiles at Guam, a us -held Pacific island.

Trump had stunned the world by saying the North faced "fire and fury like the world has never seen" over its nuclear and missile programmes.

While some investors anxious about the growing tension between the USA and North Korea have been busy driving up the price of gold, deVere Group strategist Tom Elliott has another idea: make sure your investments "remain diversified".

Trump continued the back-and-forth with a post on Twitter this morning indicating that the United States is prepared to take military action against North Korea. He issued a new warning to Pyongyang, tweeting: "Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely".

Apart from the war of words between North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un and Mr. Trump, the market faces fresh uncertainties from central banks and politicians in the second half of 2017. The Russell 2000 index of smaller-company stocks slipped less than 1 point to 1,371. The index closed at its highest level since November 8, when Trump was elected president.

WALL STREET: Losses in health care and consumer-focused companies pulled USA stocks lower, snapping a 10-day winning streak for the Dow Jones industrial average.

Most large-cap stocks were mixed across the board. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index plunged by 2%, while South Korea's Kospi Index slumped by 1.7%.

There were fewer signs of anxiousness in the markets Friday.

A majority of the major sectors have moved lower on the day, although most are showing relatively modest moves to the downside.

European markets are broadly lower, with U.K.'s FTSE -1.2%, Germany's DAX -0.9% and France's CAC -0.4%; in Asia, Japan's Nikkei finished -0.1% and China's Shanghai Composite closed -0.4%.
