Nolan Arenado, the Rockies' all-star third baseman and National League MVP candidate, departed Sunday's game against Miami in the fifth inning after getting hit in the left hand on a pitch by Vance Worley.

Arenado was in considerable pain and nearly immediately left the field and went into the Rockies clubhouse. There was no immediate word on the extent of his injury.

The Colorado Rockies received three hits from their shortstop Pat Valaika in the game, but no runs or RBIs.

No one can really explain his current home run binge, not even Stanton, but it shows no signs of ending.

This story will be updated. He had been 4-0 with a 2.95 ERA during that stretch. Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez made a diving catch, but it was trapped, and his strong throw home could not prevent two runs from scoring.

Gerardo Parra had an RBI single, and Gonzalez hit a two-run single. Ryan McMahon almost had an RBI groundout. It was the 250th homer of Stanton's career and came in his 941st game. "But he's a good hitter".

As Stanton reflected on tying the team home run record, he talked about growing up in Los Angeles and attending Dodgers games when Sheffield played for them after leaving the Marlins.

Miami took a 5-3 lead in the fourth on Mike Aviles' two-round double into the left-field corner, and the bullpen did the rest.

In his last 10 games, Stanton has nine homers.

Black said when Arenado was first hit, he was anxious it could be serious. Rockies manager Bud Black (illness) was back in the dugout after missing Saturday's game.

Rockies: RHP Chad Bettis will complete his comeback from chemotherapy for testicular cancer by starting Monday night's game in Denver against Atlanta.
