Starbucks Thinks You Want A Sushi Burrito

This maki roll is filled with chicken instead of fish.

The chicken maki roll is billed as a classic California chicken burrito with a twist. Still, Starbucks has a recent history of bringing more niche products to the mainstream, so if this sushi burrito proves successful, it could potentially be the sushi burrito's big break nationwide.

Starbucks plans to offer the roll in other cities if it turns out to be a success at the trial locations.

Starbucks is once again hopping on the food trends train. In March, they tried their hand at avocado toast and in 2015 stores started offering individual Sriracha packets.

This sushi roll is stuffed with sushi rice, shredded chicken, cucumber, pickled cabbage, onion, and avocado, drizzled with tomatillo salsa and lime crema, and wrapped in seaweed. It may not feature fish as "traditional" sushi burritos would-but you'll be grateful for it when you're not biting into tuna that's been sitting in a refrigerator case.

The sushi burrito is part of Starbucks' new Mercato line, which includes other grab-and-go lunch items such as sandwiches and soups.
