The One Where JAY-Z Subverts 'Friends' For His A+ 'Moonlight' Clip

JAY- Z debuted a music video for "Moonlight" - the latest track from his revelatory 4:44 album - on August 4 at 4:44 p.m. ET, and it featured a starry cast of talent in very familiar settings.

Featuring Jerrod Carmichael (The Carmichael Show) as Ross, Issa Rae (Insecure) as Rachel, Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) as Phoebe, LaKeith Stanfield (Atlanta) as Chandler, Lil Rey Howery (Get Out) as Joey and Tessa Thompson (Creed) as Monica, the clip imagines a show that ain't so different at all. Master of None executive producer and co-creator Alan Yang directed the video.

As previously reported, the video remakes the season 3 episode, "The One Where No One's Ready", and shows Carmichael asking Buress what he thinks of the updated version of the sitcom, which he claims is "something subversive" that could "turn culture on its head".

Reached by The Hollywood Reporter, Crane, revealed that while he had heard of the spoof, it wasn't enough to plunk down his credit card to subscribe to JAY-Z's exclusive music service (prices range from $9.99 to $19.99 per month).

The clip will be available for streaming outside of Tidal later this week.

Crane, who produced the NBC show from 1994 to 2004 along with friend Marta Kauffman, said: "I'm just happy that the show is still part of the cultural zeitgeist after all these years".
