Wenger was reported to have railed against the introduction of a director of football at Arsenal as his unseemly contract saga rumbled on and he senses a move towards more technical analysis in the running of clubs, with a shift away from what he terms "football specialists".

"He had a little abdominal strain that he caught on Sunday morning in training and he had a scan two days ago", Wenger told a news conference.

Sanchez missed Arsenal's scintillating start to the new Premier League season, an abdominal injury forcing him to sit out the 4-3 victory over Leicester.

Sanchez is out of contract at the end of 2017-18 and has been linked with French giants Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League rivals Manchester City, but Arsenal insist the 28-year-old will not be sold.

Wenger remains determined to keep Sanchez at Arsenal, after he scored 30 goals in all competitions last term and says the club will not be tempted into a late-window sale. "(PSG) are looking for (Kylian) Mbappe, that's what I read in the papers. "I just think we are not open - what I said to you many times - to any offers, anyway". "I have had no contact with PSG".

Alexis Sanchez is an Arsenal player.

"I felt that to lose tonight would have been bad for us because we had such good preparation and to sit there in the morning and think we had lost at home would have been awful", he said. Personally I think he is a hugely talented player, he's on the way up and he will continue to move up because the potential is there. "I believe he will be a very great player".
