According to the Telegraph's James Ducker, the club do not want to take any "unnecessary risks" with Pogba as he recovers from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of action since September 12.

The Independent says Soler has "greatly impressed United staff" since making his debut for Valencia in December 2016.

And Soler, who has been used mainly on the right flank this term but can also play centrally, has been identified as his new No1 target, reports the Independent.

United will reportedly not allow a huge spend this winter and have tightened the purse strings.

That snub still wrangles with Mourinho, but the injury to Paul Pogba has left his midfield looking weak and he is desperate to address that in January with the signing of 20-year-old Soler.

"These are moments in which good form of the team can be decisive for the second part of the season".

It is believed United would need to fork out about £40million to land the Spain Under-21 ace.

"They come loaded with games, especially during the Christmas period".
