The Dow Jones industrial average lost 97.84 points, or 0.4 percent, to 26,017.81.

Boeing jumped 3.5 percent after the company announced a joint venture with car seating leader Adient to make aircraft seats.

Wall Street's main indexes seesawed in choppy trade on Thursday, as gains in tech stocks offset losses in interest-rate sensitive sectors.

In Asia, Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 finished 0.4 percent lower. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rebounded from earlier losses to gain 0.3 percent.
